The control gear for the Alpha 1. The shiny metal object at the bottom of the control box is the ignitor, the ballast is in the middle and the capacitor is at the top.
The light reflected off the table is from a normal Compact Fluorescent lamp.
The Alpha 1 (with control box still open) Notice how short the wire is from the control gear to the lantern. This is so I can carry them both around.
The Alpha 1 at full power. (It is much brighter than this, but the camera cannot see the sodium) The support for the SOX lamp can clearly be seen.

This is the old GE 90W SOX lamp that was removed with the lantern. The lamp will not work as the vacuum surrounding the arc tube has unfortunately been damaged.
